2013-2014 Regular Session – SB 372 HOPE Scholarship; require local school systems to calculate; provide grade point average; eligibility

The House Committee on Education offers the following substitute to SB 372:
A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1 To amend Code Section 20-2-157 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to a
2 uniform reporting system for certain purposes and academic eligibility requirements to
3 receive a HOPE scholarship, so as to require local school systems to calculate and provide
4 a grade point average for freshman, sophomore, and junior students for purposes of
5 determining HOPE eligibility; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and
6 for other purposes.
7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
8 SECTION 1.
9 Code Section 20-2-157 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to a uniform
10 reporting system for certain purposes and academic eligibility requirements to receive a
11 HOPE scholarship, is amended by adding a new subsection to read as follows:
12 “(g) At the conclusion of each school year, the local school system shall provide to each
13 freshman, sophomore, and junior student or to his or her parent or guardian the grade point
14 average calculated by the Georgia Student Finance Commission in accordance with the
15 provisions of this Code section for determining HOPE eligibility.”
16 SECTION 2.
17 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
